Justin didn't personally qualify (have a fast enough time) for Boys Prelims, but over the swim season the boys free relay has repeatedly qualified, so his 8 & under group could send a relay of any boys to Boys Prelims. While there are only seven 8 boys in his age group, I'm pretty sure he's not in the top four. Either way, he was asked to be on the Boys Prelims free relay. Going into it, their time was MUCH slower than the other teams so it was very likely they wouldn't move on. We agreed to let Justin swim (the meet can be crazy with no limit on how many can qualify and parking can be a nightmare), because it just happened to be at our pool.
Justin and I walked down on the blistering hot day. He was quite the sight if you didn't know what was going on (the coaches dyed the kids' hair and he chose to walk in his jammers). He had a blast with his friends getting psyched for the race. He swam his fastest, had fun, and of course had some concession treats!
